After a quick procrastinatory browse of Phonica, here are the aural goodies I wish I could clutch in my arms right now. Click the album cover for the link to the phonica listing…
HOUSE OF HOUSE : Rushing to Paradise [WHATEVER WE WANT RECORDS]. FOUND! I’m not sure I’d call this “House of House”. But wait till about half-way through that sample, and you’ll get it. At first I wondered if this was a pitched down re-edit of the Mylo track, but my worries melted away. The first track,The Rough Half, is the highlight. The vocals in the 2nd track are not my fav. UPDATE: The sample I had heard was pretty much the meat of the track. The rest is slower, less interesting, and just not so hot |
FOOD OF THE GODS : Boy From Brazil / Poison. FOUND! The first track on this record more so than the second. Funky industrious bassline with fly-like guitars and Portuguese(?). Have not really heard of this group before, but I like their name and their groove. |
SHOES : My Name Is Bohannon [SHOES]. Specifically check out Summertime Groove. FOUND! My god I just want to stamp my feet. That tune is so damn funky. The last two tracks are slower numbers. I’m less crazy about the vocals in the first track. |
BOTTIN : No Static [ITALIANS DO IT BETTER]. Bottin has been putting out some good stuff recently. He’s a recent up-and-comer from NJ doing the good work. He put a great disco mix out that I’ve played out at least 6 times now in my car. |
DAMIAN LAZARUS : Moment [GET PHYSICAL MUSIC]. FOUND! Definitely has the Get Physical sound in its bassline. I’m just really digging the mix of the soft dreamy vocals with the could-be-clubby bass synth. |
BOOZOO BAJOU : Same Sun (Prins Thomas Rmx) [K7 RECORDS]. Not totally sure what to call this one. Very dubby for sure. Nice female vocals. Great little marching groove. I do know that anything Prins Thomas touches tends to be good.

PEACE DIVISION : Three Corners EP [8BIT RECORDS]. FOUND! Deep, chuggin’ beats. A bit darker, a bit more minimal. But real funky. The samples don’t show me the action, but I’m left wanting to find it out. |
