Sending ripples through sound

The Toriton is an instrument based off of work done by Sebastian Tomczak. In my version, calm music is playing in a room. Three bowls sit on a table in the center amidst other glasses and stones. When the water is disturbed, the audio playing is disturbed in a similar fashion.

The device works through the use of a laser pointer hanging above each bowl. The laser shines through the bowl and on to a photoresistor. When the water is disturbed, the laser is deflected off of the sensor. I read the sensor values into my computer using a microcontroller. Once in the computer, I could use those value to modulate the playing music using any variety of effects.
